The Greater Western Outline Business Case Report (Jacobs Consultancy) recommended for further development two options to reduce the stopping train frequency to hourly , in order to release train paths for freight. However , these have not (as yet) been implemented.
Reading Green Park - The Department of Transport has approved plans for the station - to be built and paid for by Green Park owners Prudential Property Investment Managers Ltd (PruPIM) and backed by Reading Borough Council.
The station , on the Reading-Basingstoke line , should open by December 2008 with trains running every 30 minutes and special services on Reading Football Club match days.
As demand grows the frequency should increase to 15-20 minute intervals and the two platforms , unmanned ticket machines , car and bicycle parking , an overbridge and bus interchange should be ready inside 18 months.
In the longer term the station should link to a Mass Rapid Transit system reaching other parts of the area.
