Title: Leaflet series
Post by: grahame on May 31, 2018, 21:45:04
At Bristol Parkway the other day I picked up a Pilning leaflet ... and something looked a little different to what I had at home.

I wonder how many there are in the series ...

Gosh the one on the left about train services must be a short read.

Love the caution at the top.

Is 'piln' a verb? If so, what is pilning?

It's to support a difficult cause but one where you succeed in the end. You'll find examples of complete Pilning in campaigners at Gainsborough Central and Manea, and you'll find it in progress just outside the Severn Tunnel on the English side.

Pilning is the act of living in the countryside and desperately wishing that Some Day My Train will Come.
Coupled with a heavy dose of disappointment upon the realisation that when it gets to the station on a Saturday which is the only day of the week that it stops there if you catch said train, you will have the devils own job getting back again, having said that Pilning is an interesting station with one platform ,a small bus stop type shelter and just about bugger all else, unless you are interested in the remains of the car parking area most of which is given over to a compound used by contractors carrying out the installation of the overhead line equipment on the South Wales Main Line,it should also be noted that other items of interest include an old station building which these days is occupied by two large and noisy dogs that roam about behind the gate to what is a junk yard/ waste sorting facility,in the absence of any decorative touches some kind person rather than plant flowers, has in fact done their best to brighten things up a bit ,by placing various varieties of skips and other assorted waste containers around the car park some are full ,others are waiting to be decorated in the same fashion, add to this the surface of the car parking area which resembles the airstrip at Port Stanley in the early 1980s and you will see just what a joyful thing it is to Pilning.
