Title: "Odd" SWT train
Post by: moonrakerz on May 20, 2009, 11:33:21
Not quite sure where to post this one !

Every day, 5 - 10 minutes after the 1112 SWT service to BTM leaves Warminster, a second, empty SWT (3 car 159) train passes in the same direction without stopping.

I happened to be in Westbury one day when this train arrived, the driver changed ends and the train then headed off in the direction of Frome/Taunton/??.  The destination board on the rear of the train said: "Stranraer for Belfast" - which I didn't take seriously !

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what this train is ?

5O65 10+33 Salisbury to Yeovil Junction
There is a return as well:
5O56 20+17 Yeovil Junction to Salisbury

You could see these occasionally as well, for route learning:

5O33 13+50 Salisbury to Yeovil Jct
5O34 16+10 Yeovil Jct to Salisbury

All run via Westbury

Paul

Many thanks for the responses, I had assumed it had to be something like those outlined above but it just seemed an awfully long way round !

Presume this one is for "route learning".

The SWT bubblecar used to operate this most of the time, and I think it was for route learning, refreshing, whatever. However the bubble is no longer operated by SWT (now at Swanage) so will be a 158/9.
