Photo 3 is a cat. Texture-wise, cats tend to be rather furry.

I hope you're not wanting a more detailed answer  ???

1 is a bench

5. is a very decrepit bicycle. I suspect it's the last one beside the marked footpath outside Melksham station, just before it enters the platform. Obviously its meaning is "cyclists keep off the footpath".

6. Is the tactile marking near the edge of a railway platform.  I hope you don't expect us to name which one!

Or does it only apply to decrepit cyclists, those riding decrepit bicycles?

I'm not sure how much I intended this to be a "formal" quiz ... some pretty impossible questions!   All taken yesterday morning at or around Melksham Station, and all features identified correctly so far.

No7. Anti trespass obstacle at the end of the platform.

No7. Anti trespass obstacle at the end of the platform.

Each time I look at that, the eye/brain's interpretation is the "inside out" reverse 3D one - some kind of mysterious pigeon-holes. That doesn't make convincing sense, but it takes a while to flip to the right 3D model. Even knowing what it is, that's still true.

If you're not sure of that, I'm sure I'm even less sure of it.

Yeah ... I found that. A clearer picture ...

1 is not just a bench, it's a bl**dy cold bench - in the winter I'd rather stand

Number 3 is the cat tile one. For dyslexics check the t & c's.  ;D

No. 6 is tactile marking specifically for proximity to a railway. The dots are hexagonally packed (offset) rather than square (inline) ones that you will find at a dropped kerb on the roadside. We had two deliveries of the latter type for our platform 4 construction at Princes Risborough returned to the supplier before the correctly textured railway ones - that we specifically ordered - were delivered.

This video (https://youtu.be/cdPymLgfXSY) by Tom Scott explains more.

8 is salt on tarmac - to avoid it icing up.

This was a welcome sight on the old Goring footbridge - thanks Colin!

I thought you were about to say it was in your local Marks and Spencers...  :o

If I may have a second entry please.

9 looks like a vertical surface of concrete that was poured into a smooth mould, with the few tiny air bubbles that remained between the concrete and mould having become little indentations in the smooth surface.  Quite a contrast to the texture of the rough-cast concrete that was fashionable in 1960s brutalist architecture.

4 is wood with blistered paint.

Did you want a location? I don't think it's Melksham, so it must be Taunton!

They are all Melksham - and taken within a few minutes yesterday morning.   The days of having rabbits running around in the middle of the night have gone,  but the cat passing by on its way through added some animal interest.

No. 9 is really difficult - it's actually the "clear" curved roof on the cycle shelter.

An area to park / leave cycles with a roof is a valuable asset at the station, but that roof is shockingly difficult to clean.  Truth be know, it was left in natural condition for many years, but following complaints last year, MRUG has had a go at getting rid of the worst of the encrusted coating; the quiz picture is a recent one and hopefully it is no longer so filthy that it causes complaints to GWR about the station adoption team not looking after the station.

Also of note in picture 3 is a cable and we all know the problem a damaged cable can cause at Melksham!

Yep ... the cat is on the very site where the damage was one.
