Title: How does a Robin Reliant cross a level crossing?
Post by: Bmblbzzz on July 30, 2015, 12:36:54
In reverse! And after the barriers have gone down. *#%??? Watch on Guardian (http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/jul/30/reliant-robin-cctv-crashing-backwards-through-level-crossing) or Telegraph (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/11772728/Robin-Reliant-reverses-through-level-crossing.html) according to choice. And boggle.

It's Reliant Robin, not the other way round.  ;)

Despite that it looks more like a Reliant Rialto to me or possibly the older Reliant Regal van.

According to The Guardian's piece, Insp Anton Menzies said:

They were very lucky that a train was not coming through at the time...

Funny that - I always thought the point of lowering the barriers was that a train was coming through.

The signalman must have watched his monitor in amazement. Presumably he didn't press the crossing clear button to clear the signal. Wonder how long train was delayed?

Not sure what line this crossing is on the Robing Hood or Pye Bridge to Kirby in Ashfield?

It would have been a Reliant Robin, but it was going the other way round.  ;)

Biggest mystery to me though is why did the driver reverse on to the crossing, having just driven over it?

There is a word to explain what the driver is...

... but it would get me banned from the Coffee Shop.

I don't know - but it's described as "Pinxton level crossing" in the Guardian news item, if that helps.  ;)
