Title: Train disabled at Pinhoe after hitting road signs placed on track - 01 Aug 18
Post by: bobm on August 01, 2018, 19:24:25
Train services have been badly disrupted on the Exeter-Waterloo line after signs and other objects were placed on the line at Pinhoe.

Last month there were similar issues at nearby Feniton - as reported by the BBC (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-england-devon-44611693?ns_mchannel=social&ns_source=twitter&ns_campaign=bbc_live&ns_linkname=5b3e567ef0f2e1066d524b01%26Concrete%20slabs%20and%20road%20signs%20left%20on%20train%20line%26&ns_fee=0#post_5b3e567ef0f2e1066d524b01).

There has been a couple of similar incidents near Chard Junction and Seaton Junction too. In those cases the trains were able to stop short of the obstructions. Don't think they made the news.

There was also a similar attempt a few days ago near Feniton which was picked up before anything happened.

Due to Vandalism at Pinhoe, all lines are blocked.

1L37 (1320 London Waterloo to Exeter St Davids) has reported a complete loss of air after running over a traffic sign on the approach to Pinhoe Crossing.

Driver has reported foam coming from the front unit, possible fire extinguisher and unable to release brakes.

Train is on the approach to crossing so unable to raise barriers and blocking the single line, so 1L64 and 1O68 stood on the Up.

GWR have been asked if a fitter can attend from Exeter if available

Unfortunately, the affected train was not due to stop at Pinhoe, so would have been at line speed (70mph).

This is BTP's Twitter feed (https://twitter.com/BTPDevonCorn/status/1024694407646404608)

Trains eventually on the move at 18:20 and one other trapped train allowed through, but the line is still closed whilst BTP complete their investigations

First-ever drone flight over ‘trespass hotspot’ will send images directly to BTP

A Network Rail drone will be making its very first flight over the south western rail route today to survey a trespass hotspot in order to record any incidences of people risking their lives on the tracks, with images set to be passed onto the British Transport Police.

The drone will be flying up to 120m high at speeds of up to 50mph. Images taken are displayed on the operator’s screen and recorded directly to a USB drive so that they can immediately be transferred to police and other relevant authorities.

Hopefully the chav's doing this are caught before they cause a serious accident, to be honest if they lose a leg or an arm by getting run over by a train  i don't care, will teach the stupid idiots a lesson.
