Title: Smoke near Pilning Station
Post by: chipbag on August 01, 2017, 00:05:20
hello everyone, I was talking to a colleague recently and he mentioned something about seeing smoke coming from land adjacent to the line that runs near Pilning station and that he thought that it had been going on for years, anyone know anything about this or is he pulling my chain.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum, Chipbag

The immediate entrance to Pilning from the road is not the rural idyll that you might expect when you see the passenger numbers - no walk through the country as you have to Dovey Junction or Altnabreac, for example.  It's past what I perceive as a material recovery operation which on the last occasion I was there had expanded during its working day onto the station approach road.  I would not be surprised if part of their recovery processed involved burning off flammable materials from composite objects in order to recover metal.   That's no more than an educated guess, and I would welcome other confirming or saying "no, that ain't so".

It was probably Network Rail forging the new footbridge on site.

I'd be careful if I were you-they're still burning witches in that part of the World!

Hello,
I have spoken to my colleague again and he has said that he has noticed it when has been on the train passing through Pilning, he says that originally it was coming from the bushes and grass, but more recently he said that it appears that it has been dug up.

I did ask if he had seen any witches, but he did say that he had seen one at home !!
