Yes the class 73 was being used by network rail for track inspection etc

Did it look like this (http://www.hastingsdiesels.co.uk/news/articles/2007a02/20070824-73107no1-Armitage.jpg)...?

Oh. Sorry about that, works fine from my end (I just checked). How weird.

Well, this is very weird. Initially I couldn't view the picture, so I cut and pasted the link embedded in blakey's post to a post of my own. That worked for a bit, but now it will not show in my post. Hence I deleted my post. I've now uploaded the pic to my photobucket account and, fingers crossed, it is now available to view. There appears to be no copyright preventing re-uploading, so here goes:

Edit by Graham ... you are correct in stating that there is no copyright preventing uploading. However, I grabbed a copy of the image from your photobucket space and it includes (even on photobucket) the text "Copyright notice - http://www.hastingsdiesels.co.uk/ and contributors" within the headers.  It also says "Copyright status unknown" rather than anything else ... and its my (very conservative view) that it should not (re)appear here without permission from the Hastings Diesel folks.  I have turned the image in this post into a link [something of an emergency action]... and I'll at the end of the thread.

Thanks for posting / deleting / reposting that, bignosemac!  I've just been doing a rather similar exercise, trying to get that image to appear.  ::)

After all the palaver trying to get 73107 'Spitfire' to appear in this thread I'm tempted to change my avatar!!!

Erm ... yes: http://www.hastingsdiesels.co.uk/news/articles/2007a02/20070824-73107no1-Armitage.jpg  :-X

And yet again, if I click on that full link I get the same 'Access forbidden' message.  ??? Bleddy computers. I blame Bill Gates.  :P ;) ;D

Hmm. Well sorry about all the excitement I inadvertantly caused with that. Although I'm still sailing serenely through with the original link working fine for me. The only possibility that occurs is that I'm using a US IP address but that seems a bit unlikely.

It's simply a way to stop hotlinking. The image loads fine if you view it on their webpage or copy and paste the direct URL into a browser.

You can see pictures of 73107 at the Hastings Diesel site ... there are some nice ones of it on a test run at:
http://www.hastingsdiesels.co.uk/news/articles/2007a06/

The copyright / hotlink issue is a bit of a minefield, and one that's caught me out in the past.  It's very easy to think that you're clear to include the URL of an image in your page so that it loads there when (in fact) you may not be, and it's also easy to duplicate an image to other's space when you're not legally supposed to do so.  Sometimes - as in this case - it's very hard to tell and there are grey areas.

Initially, respponsibility lies with the poster and indeed everyone has signed up to the forum agreement (before they could post) which passes responsibillity to them for what they post.  However, once a post which may not be within copyright (or some other) law is brought to the site operator's attention, a degree of responsibility in law shifts to him/her if (s)he does not check and act as appropriate to return the site content to something that's within the rules.

The picture of 73107 is a very grey area.  I'm 100% sure it was posted with the best of intent.  But I also know that there are certain images which are often hotlinked from my (work) web site quite often ... and copied quite often too, I know how I trace them, I know what I can (and very occasionally DO do) if I find them elsewhere in this way, and (sorry) I don't have the time to risk finding myself in the firing line over a picture of an electrodiesel  :-X

If you want to see 73107 ... please follow the link above to the Hastings Diesel site.  She's a lovely loco, and you can enjoy many pictures of her (and the narrow bodied stock with was not at Paddington the other day) on that other site.

Slightly off topic, but reminds me of a time another seller hotlinked to an image of something I was selling on ebay.  They linked the image directly to my website.  Got the link changed on my listing then changed the image that was shown in the old location to something slightly more inappropriate.  Amusing to see their listing with this picture and they become NARU (Not a Registered User - probably due to showing an inappropriate picture) within a few hours!

Hi All,

I am sure that is the engine I seen at Paddington at the front of an HST when we left could I been the bright sunshine ( or couple of bottles of wine on eurostar ) that made me think is was white.

Maybe slightly off topic - but welcome backup (thank you) for me ... this shows the sort of things that can happen if you hotlink or otherwise use pictures you're not supposed to.

73107 has been to Paddington a few times a day every day so far this week. Is being used for route learning between Old Oak Common and Paddington, has also done a couple spins around the Greenford Loop (HST drivers need to sign this in the event of a power car/set turning move).
