Title: How many APTs still exist?
Post by: BerkshireBugsy on August 15, 2014, 10:38:52
I was passing through Crew station yesterday and noticed one of the APTs parked up in what I believe is the heritage centre. It has probably been there for ages but I don't go though there that often.

Are there any other APT sets which still exist ?

Just curious :)

Just one other ATP-P still exists I think along with the ATP-E and they are both at the NRM, Shildon.  'P' stands for Prototype and 'E' Experimental - the Experimental version was gas turbine powered.

At the Railway Age, Crewe, there are APT vehicles:

48103, 48106, (DTS);  48404, (TRSB); 48602, 48603, 48606, (TBF); 49002 (M)

At Coventry (next to the Midland Air Museum at Baginton) , there are:

49006 (M), the NRM power car., plus ex Hastings test coach and the experimental suspension freight wagon. There is an open weekend, 13, 14 September when these may be seen in public.

At the NRM (Shildon):

PC1, TC1, TC2, PC2.

At a price, the Crewe half set could move on its own, without hydrokinetic brake, or tilt.

The above from multiple sources.
