Found this footage of a road trip from London to Bath via Reading, Theale, Newbury etc.

Outside lane BMW/Audi drivers existed in the 60s then  ;D

For me, the interesting aspect of this video is not the commentary but the going back in time aspect - 48 years ago: different cars, road signs, fewer motorways, three lane 'suicide' main roads, unspoilt provincial towns, quaint shop fronts without garish signs - another world altogether!

Going back even further this video from 1939 is also interesting:
