From the Bristol Post (http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/Landslip-closes-train-line-Swindon-Bristol/story-17246063-detail/story.html):

Quote
Landslip closes train line between Swindon and Bristol Parkway

Due to a landslip on the Down Badminton line near Chipping Sodbury Tunnel, the line between Swindon and Bristol Parkway is closed to all trains. (8.30am)

Paddington to South Wales services are being diverted from Swindon via Box.

UPDATE 9.15AM:

The 06.45 Paddington to Swansea service was trapped at Hullavington, but that train is now en route back to Wootton Bassett Junction to be diverted.

The Paddington to Cardiff service is suspended until further notice from 9.15am departure from Paddington.

The Paddington to Swansea service will divert from Swindon via Chippenham and Bath, calling at Patchway for road transport. It will not be calling at Bristol Parkway.

The freight service is being monitored train by train by the Train Route Control but no major issues are expected.

Trains from Bristol Parkway to Swindon are running at caution past the site of the slip. Ad-hoc alterations will be made as necessary but no major are issues expected.

Further updates to follow.

See if you can make any sense of this from the  Swindon Advertiser (http://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/news/10029138.Delays_between_Swindon_and_Bristol_due_to_landslip/)

Quote
A LANDLIP between Swindon and Bristol Parkway has blocked railway lines in the Bristol direction.

Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or diverted at short notice.

However, some Eastbound services are running.

A First Great Western spokesman said all London Paddington to South Wales services will no longer call at Bristol Parkway and will call instead at Bristol Patchway.

There is a bus shuttle service in operation to convey passengers between Parkway and Patchway.

The eastbound line is open and services are being operated subject to speed restrictions through the affected area, while westbound services are being diverted via Bristol Parkway.

It is expected that the disruption will continue until mid-afternoon.

Down line (Towards Swansea) through the affected area has now open at 5mph. Swansea Services are now calling at Bristol Parkway, with Up services operating over the down line around the affected area - London to Cardiff services continue to be cancelled.

Not sure if it is connected but the planned engineering work between Swindon and Chippenham seems to have been cancelled tonight.  Both the 22:15 London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads and the 23:30 London Paddington to Cardiff Central (via Bristol Temple Meads) are now shown as calling at Chippenham and Bath Spa and the replacement buses cancelled.

I assume they would have gone via the South Wales line under the original plan.  (What is that line called?  via Chipping Sodbury?  turn right at Wootton Bassett?  ;D )

I have always known it as the "Badminton Cut off" ...

Colloquially, due to the frequency with which the area either floods and/or collapses, I believe it's referred to as the Sodding Chipbury line ...  ::) ;D

I believe it's often referred to as the Hullavington route, although that won't mean much to the majority of passengers, so might not be used much for public announcements for whom "diverted via Bristol Parkway" would be much clearer.
