Title: Cancellation this morning (12/11/12)
Post by: adc82140 on November 12, 2012, 07:07:00
The 07:04 Reading to Redhill has been cancelled this morning- the reason given:

"This train has been cancelled because of congestion caused by earlier delays"

As we're nearly at the beginning of service, how can this be? Nothing else has been cancelled.

Not happy. I'm now driving to Guildford.

Now JourneyCheck says

Quote
This train has been delayed at Reading and is now 25 minutes late.
This train will no longer call at Wokingham, Crowthorne, Sandhurst, Blackwater, Farnborough North, North Camp and Ash.
This is due to congestion caused by earlier delays.

Which is good-as cancelled for Wokingham, Crowthorne, Sandhurst, Blackwater, Farnborough North, North Camp and Ash.  Isn't there another one half an hour later - or rather (this morning) 5 minutes later, though?

The next one is a bit cosy at the best of times. With the extra loading today I'm sure people will have been left behind. Decided not to risk that.

The previous working of that train (05:31 GTW-RDG) arrived 27 mins late, so with a very tight turnround your train departed 25 mins late from Reading.  It still ran, but didn't stop between Reading and Guildford where it recovered some time and left 15 minutes late.

...and it was still playing catch-up on its next working too...

The interesting question is why was the (05:31 GTW-RDG) late arrivng at Reading?

Surely there weren't that many passengers crowding on to the train at Gatwick or any where else.

There was engineering work all day on Sunday with buses between Guildford and Gatwick Aiport.  Perhaps it was an unplanned knock on effect from that?

The interesting question is why was the (05:31 GTW-RDG) late arrivng at Reading?

The ECS from Redhill was late so it left 7 minutes late from Gatwick and then lost another 15 minutes en-route to Guildford.  Not sure why, but low rail adhesion is the usual reason this time of the year on that route?
