Title: Tracking down specific passenger and freight train info
Post by: Boppy on April 29, 2013, 11:30:54
Hi,

I'm after info on two trains during the morning peak hours travelling from Reading towards Paddington.

The first is the 08.34 HST departure from Reading to Paddington (or lack of I should say).  This service is sorely missed with double the load now boarding the 08.35 and the usual routine of having to close off platform 10.  I asked staff at Reading station what had happened to the 08.34 two weeks ago and they said it had been cancelled whilst there is ongoing engineering work out rest but would be back last week.  However, it's still to make a re-appearance although there was a one-off sighting on Fri 21st Apr!  Does anyone know when this train will be back in service?

The second one is me being purely inquisitive.  Around the same time each morning is a freight train that passes through (typically platform 15) on it's way towards London.  I just wondered the best way to find out about the route info for this train - wondering what it is transporting, from where and to where?

Thanks!

Boppy.

I think it's 6Z33, 05:38 Cardiff Tidal T.C. to Dagenham Down Yard.  Operated by Freightliner in the 'metals' sector, so I'd assume it's going to Dagenham empty to collect scrap metal.

The 08:34 is normally formed of the 05:53 Plymouth-Paddington Service, which has not been running the last few weeks because of the Monday-Thursday engineering works between Taunton and Castle Cary (the works finish this Thursday):

Thank-you for that input  aleph_0, and a very warm welcome to the Coffee Shop forum.  :)

Indeed.  Thanks aleph_0 - much appreciated.  II - thanks for the freight info.  Sometimes there are WinCar wagons too (not always though) - does that correlate?

Cheers,

Boppy.

Here is the list of trains that are scheduled to pass through Reading at around 08:30 in the morning.  As stated above, the only freight to pass through Reading towards London at this time is the Dagenham Scrap Metal train.

Thanks.  Is that an app available for download that others can use?

Looks like a staff system to me.

It's Genius Mobile which is for rail staff only I'm afraid, the picture is from an FGW log-in (guessing a Thames Valley member of staff) as it shows the allocated stock for those services.

In which case, members of the Coffee Shop forum, may I ask that you please do not publicise its apparent 'misuse' here: we have already seen some concerns over such 'restricted-access' railway sites being quoted on this forum, at http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/coffeeshop/index.php?topic=6405.msg129780#msg129780  ::)

Thanks.  Chris from Nailsea.  :-X

Don't think there would be a problem with just printing a screen grab of a Genius screen to be honest, Chris.  Had someone given away a username and password then that would be different of course.
