Title: Cardiff to Carmarthen/Milford Haven ATW Service
Post by: Jez on January 13, 2008, 19:29:56
Anyone got any idea why this service run by ATW wasnt calling at Neath or Swansea yesterday? It called at Bridgend and Port Talbot Parkway and the next station was Llanelli.

It doesnt make sense why FGW services from Swansea to London Paddington were calling at Swansea and Neath, as were the local two hourly service between Swansea and Cardiff which calls at some of the smaller stations, but this service wasnt.

The train staff didnt appear to know why.

Maybe if it had a defective cab at one end then they may have sent it via the Swansea avoider as to not change direction at Swansea, or maybe it was diverted via the district line for some reason?

It clearly took the Swansea District Line if it missed Neath as well as Swansea. Maybe the line immediately west of Swansea was closed, so the only way it could get to Carmarthen was along the District Line?

Possibly. That would explain how other trains like the high speed FGW from Swansea to London Paddington were stopping at Neath.

I asked the station staff out of interest and they also didnt seem to understand why some trains stopped at Neath and Swansea and some didnt.
