Services were delayed and diverted for several hours after the incident which occurred on Thursday morning

A person has died after being hit by a train near St Georges between Bridgend and Cardiff Central.

Several train services were delayed or diverted due to the accident which occurred on the Pontyclun line on Thursday morning, about 10.45am.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: ^Our officers were called to the rail line close to St George^s level crossing, Cardiff at 10.45am on Thursday, 25 September after a report that a person had been struck by a train.

^Colleagues from South Wales Police and the Welsh Ambulance Service also attended the incident, and a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

^The incident is currently not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

^Officers are currently working to identify the deceased and inform their family.^

Arriva Trains Wales services between Cheltenham/Cardiff Central and Maesteg and also Manchester Piccadilly and Carmarthen/Milford Haven were affected.

First Great Western trains between London Paddington and Swansea were also delayed or diverted.

Passengers experienced delays of more than 30 minutes as the incident caused problems on the train line for several hours.

Woman survives after being hit by train at Finsbury Park station

A woman has survived after she was hit by a tube train in Finsbury Park station.

Fire crews and the London Ambulance Service rescued her from the Victoria line tracks at 12.20pm this afternoon.

She was treated at the scene before she was taken to hospital.

British Transport Police have described her injuries as not ^life-threatening.^ A spokesman said: ^We were called to Finsbury Park London Underground station at 12.20pm on Wednesday, September 24 following reports of a woman being hit by a train. Colleagues from London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade also attended. A woman was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital. Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, and the incident is not being treated as suspicious.^

BTP said the woman is being detained at hospital under the Mental Health Act.

The station was closed with Victoria and Piccadilly Line services part suspended for an hour causing problems for commuters. The station has now fully opened with some minor delays affecting travellers.

These are happening _way_ too often.

From looking around various news sites I have found reports of 11 fatalities in the last four days.  That is an awful lot of families, relatives, friends and railway staff directly affected and many more involved on the periphery of the incidents.
