Lines reopen after person hit by train between Swindon and Kemble

A person was hit on the line between Swindon and Kemble around lunchtime today.

Travellers faced delays of up to 30 minutes between Swindon and Gloucester.

First Great Western has now said that all lines have been reopened.

In a mesage posted on Twitter at 2.20pm by First Great Western, a spokesman said: "Following person hit by a train between Swindon & Kemble, Cross Country are conveying passengers between Cheltenham Spa & Bristol Parkway."

At around 2.05pm they said: "Due to a person hit by a train between Swindon & Kemble all lines are blocked. Services along this route may be delayed or revised."

In a statement on the First Great Western website a spokesman said: "A person has been hit by a train between Swindon and Kemble. This is causing delays of up to 30 minutes to trains between Swindon and Gloucester. There is no firm estimate yet of how long disruption will last but it is likely to continue until at least 15:30.

Passengers may use CrossCountry services between Cheltenham Spa and Bristol Parkway. Coaches have been requested for Kemble. 1 x Applegate due at 14:45, 2 x South Gloucester due at 15:10. Taxi's have been requested in the meantime to convey passengers from Kemble to Swindon. You can follow this incident using the hashtag #Kemble."

British Transport Police are dealing with the incident.

Inquiries to find out who died in train tragedy between Swindon and Kemble

POLICE inquiries are taking place to establish the identity of the man who died when he was hit by a train between Swindon and Kemble on Saturday.

Passengers faced up to 30-minute delays on Saturday as services between Swindon and Gloucester were delayed and passengers were re-routed, with coaches and taxis used as alternative transport.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: ^BTP officers were called to the line near to Oaksey disused station.

^Officers from BTP and Wiltshire Police attended the incident, which was reported to police at 13.39pm and the body of a man was discovered.

"Inquiries are continuing to establish the identity of the man and the circumstances leading up to his death.^
