[Not sure if this is in the right place. Mods, please move or advise if it would be better in another board!]

We're going to Clevedon, I have been told. Ok. Probably by bus, but I remember signs on the platforms at Yatton saying "Yatton for Clevedon". Knowing First run the buses as well as the trains,I thought this must indicate some connecting bus service from Yatton station into Clevedon, perhaps a PlusBus(?) ticket. But googling for buses from Yatton to Clevedon only gives me connections via Bristol!

Can anybody enlighten me on why Yatton is "Yatton for Clevedon" and if there is any decently connecting bus?

It's 'for Clevedon' only in the sense that Yatton is the railhead for Clevedon.

There is however a multi-mode, multi-operator ticket you could use. It's called the Freedom Travelpass, valid on trains in a defined area and most buses in said area, and comes in various flavours. For your journey if you wanted to combine train and bus it would cost ^13.50 peak and ^12.50 after 9am for a day ticket. There are also weekly and monthly seasons available.

As for a connecting bus, it would be better to travel to Nailsea and Backwell station, but even then you have a longish walk to Nailsea town centre to pick up First's X8 to Clevedon. The only bus that runs from Yatton station to Clevedon is Carmel Coaches' 88. With a grand total of 4 buses a day! I'm unsure though if Carmel are included in the list of operators on which the Freedom Travelpass is valid.

In summary I think you'd be better off just getting the X8 from Bristol Bus Station through to Clevedon. Day ticket ^6.

It's a sore point for those of us living in Clevedon that the only practical way to reach our nearest railhead is by car.  Even if you get the infrequent 88 one way there's no way back after 4:45pm. There are taxi numbers posted near the booking office (closed afternoons) but they can be involve a considerable wait, I fear.  Clevedon has the best bus service it's ever had...as long as you want to go to Bristol (last bus back Mon-Sat 00:05 - after 'lights out').

To be honest the hourly and tortuously routed X8 which passes Nailsea and Backwell is to be considered alongside the half-hourly 'direct' X6 from Bristol Bus Station.  Taking the 8 or 9 from Temple Meads to the Centre, it is possible to change buses at the same stop. First West of England Day Ticket (^7) will do the job. Not a satisfactory way to travel for those who prefer the rails.

Clevedon, Yatton, Nailsea, Backwell are all within the Bristol 'Outer Zone' so a ^6 day ticket would suffice.
