Title: Two car? Three car?
Post by: grahame on September 28, 2015, 20:16:44
Silly question / showing my ignorance.   Slough, Marlow and Henley-on-Thames - how many carriages on the train during the day?  Peak hour enhancements?   Looking to do some seat occupancy rate calculations.

Maidenhead Marlow is a 2 car 165 during off peak (09:00 to 17:00)

Normally the Slough / Windsor is a 2 car 165 all day although in the summer I believe it is a 3 car

Yes, Maidenhead to Marlow has to be two car as that's all the Platform at Bourne End can handle. This unit then does the shuttle from Bourne End to Marlow during Peak Hours. The 18:14 from Maidenhead to Bourne End (17:42 off Pad) is scheduled as a 4 car. This also forms the 18:44 off Maidenhead.

The 07:07 from Henley to Pad is scheduled to have 6 cars.

.....Having written the above I have now found this from another topic, this going back from the May timetable change. As mentioned above the 17:42 now has an increase of 1 coach from what is quoted below.

Semi Fast Peak Services Formations > From Next Week

16:42 Bourne End 2 Car
17:12 Henley 4 Car
17:42 Bourne End 3 Car
18:12 Henley 6 Car FX 3 Car FO
18:42 Bourne End 4 Car
19:05 Henley 3 Car
20:18 Reading 6 Car FX 3 Car FO

Platform 1 at Bournew can take at least 5 3+2 not sure about 6 2*3. Marlow definitely only ever 2.

Surely that has not changed?  Yet from journey check:

Quote
20:57 Bourne End to Marlow due 21:04
Facilities on the 20:57 Bourne End to Marlow due 21:04.
This is due to more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time.
Will be formed of 3 coaches instead of 4.

That's what I understood - journey check error then reporting "4 down to 3"?     But the "1" and "2" on the real time reports are platform numbers not train lengths ... unless a 153 has escaped eastward!

Henley to Twyford shuttle is 5-car on the Saturday of Henley Royal Regatta, and has to do a quick turnround in platform 4, because 5-cars won't fit in the bay platform.

Not wishing to split hairs, but it’s actually a 7-car on the Saturday and Sunday IIRC.  Still not enough capacity on all the trips!

Definitely a journey check error it must have been one of the Maidenhead - Bourne Shuttles that was 4 down to 3.
