Title: Devon Day Ranger
Post by: bradshaw on June 08, 2016, 11:40:39
I am confused about the validity of this one the Sunday Okehampton service. These are the replies from National Rail and GWR in response to my asking them about using one for the Okehampton service from Axminster.

This is the reply from National Rail
Our website is designed to display a through fare for the journey planned by a user. The Devon Day Ranger ticket isn’t valid to travel to Okehampton; therefore, our website hasn’t offered this ticket when you planned your journey from Axminster to Okehampton.
This from GWR
I understand that the ticket office at Axminster station is closed on Sundays. In such situations you can purchase the ranger ticket from the conductor on-board.

Can anyone clarify this?

GWR haven't checked the validity, just the availability. I'd ask again....

Rover and Ranger tickets can be purchased on the train, I have often bought a Severn and Solent Rover after boarding at Axminster. The Devon Day Ranger is valid to Okehampton according to http://railrover.org/pages/devon-day-ranger.html .

Hmmm - is that a 'fan' site or an official site?

NRE's validity map clearly doesn't show it as available
http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/static/documents/promotions/Devon_rangers.pdf

Just noted too that this map is linked to on that RailRover webpage - to the same map I list above - which shows that it's been added on the RailRover site.

So definite need to get something in writing from GWR I'd say.

The validity information on National Rail website is dated 11/06/2005, I think the GB Rail Rover guide is probably a little more up to date!

hmmm. I don't think GWR (RPI) staff would see it that way necessarily.

Get definitive answer to be sure

Okehampton is shown as valid in the GWR Rangers and Rovers booklet, on the Devon Ranger map.

In that case, all is good & GWR need to update that map on NRE I reckon

Okehampton is shown as valid in the GWR Rangers and Rovers booklet, on the Devon Ranger map.
Is said booklet available online? If so, I can't seem to find it.

No, it doesn't seem to be online, I looked everywhere and in the end gave up and phoned herself to look in the one I have at home.

I picked up a 'ranger and rover tickets' booklet this morning. It's a brand new updated version and Okehampton is on the map.

Devon day ranger is indeed valid on the Okehampton service, i can not guarantee that it will be available on there yet but request has been put in to add devon day ranger to south west trains tvm's ... just type in 'devon' on the a-z finder .... i only requested this last week after noticing that the products had been added as destinations rather than rovers making it possible to add them to the tvm's ..... if not the guard can sell it to you on board :-)
