Thanks for posting that item, Western Pathfinder.  :)

Yes: in the short term, I've made this topic a 'sticky', meaning that it will always appear at the top of the board - pending a more considered decision as to how we could possibly arrange for such updates to be flagged to our readers.

Thanks for your constructive suggestion, Western Pathfinder. :)

I've now taken further liberties with grahame's forum and created a new board, Television programmes about railways (http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/coffeeshop/index.php?board=49.0), specifically for members to post about any television programmes with a railway content.  I have seeded that new board by moving quite a few previous topics from elsewhere on the Coffee Shop forum to that new board.

This particular topic will also be moved there, in a moment.  ;)

All the episodes of this series was shown regionally on BBC One at 19:30 last night - the 'Time' episode for example was shown in the West and South-West as it is somewhat GWR focused being the first railway to have to deal with the time issue being a predominantly long distance east-west rather than north-south railway.

This means that the whole series is already available on the iPlayer.

I did the same ....and having watched it, found it quite tedious and boring !...not just because it was based around Derby. Liz McIvor is no Michael Portillo or even Ruth Goodman for keeping you engaged and interested. I hope subsequent programmes are an improvement !

You'll need Netflix for that. Tony M. Nyphots (nearly) complete visual oeuvre is over there.

"First transmitted in 1962, John Betjeman presents a documentary exploring the impact of the removal of steam locomotives from British railway services on the railway men who have maintained the system since the days of the Great Western Railway. The introduction of diesel engines meant a real departure from usual operational practices for the railway men who had dedicated their entire working lives to operating the iconic steam locomotive."

Available for over a year.
