Title: Early morning traffic jam at the Magic Roundabout, Swindon - 09 Jul 16
Post by: bobm on July 09, 2016, 19:43:56
Billed alongside the events to mark the 175th anniversary of the founding of the Swindon Works, there was a special event at the iconic Magic Roundabout this morning.

The junction had been closed overnight for carriageway repairs and white line painting but was extended for an hour to allow the event to mark the 60th anniversary of the Pressed Steel plant in Swindon which made panels for a wide variety of cars.

Not sure how many cars took part, but in the opening moments it had the potential to end in gridlock as the vehicles left the football club car park and quickly filled all the routes around the mini-roundabouts.  Some quick work by the stewards soon got things moving however.

It is hard to convey the scale of event at ground level - the firefighters at the adjoining station had the best view from their hydraulic lift until some of them were called out on a shout!  ;D
