Title: Harris Under Fire For 1-Hour Talks Offer
Post by: Lee on February 16, 2008, 11:09:44
Transport chiefs have slammed a Government decision to spend just one hour discussing problems on the region's railways (link below.)

Members from all four councils in the West of England Partnership have been asking for a meeting with Rail Minister Tom Harris for months.

They finally heard they had been offered an audience - at Government offices in London in early April - for just half an hour.

The meeting has now been extended to one hour's duration.

Now two transport members from around the city region have reacted angrily to the offer of the one-hour meeting, saying much more time is needed to talk through the issues.

And they say Mr Harris should be prepared to travel to the West Country, rather than demanding that all four leaders spend taxpayers' money on travelling to London for the day.

Mr Harris said his diary was under severe pressure but that he was looking forward to the meeting.

Says it all really doesn't it.

Hope their train up isn't late!
