Title: Contrasting good news/not so good news news stories
Post by: BerkshireBugsy on December 12, 2016, 13:33:06
Whilst browsing the BBC today I found it ironic that the following stories to be published on the same day.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-38286727 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-38286727)

and the on going saga ...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-38290260 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-38290260)

For purely selfish reasons I wish the new Oxford link had opened a day earlier as I may have been able to take a slight detour home to Thatcham on the way back from my company do in Warwick on Sunday morning.

It did open yesterday, with a soft launch. Today was for the fanfare and razzmatazz.

I wondered because there were replacement bus services between Banbury and Oxford...was this related or just coincidence?

I suspect coincidence. The service started on the first day of the new timetable but as is often the case the operator chose to wait for the first working day as it is perceived to have a bigger PR impact.

There's also the very practical issue of it not being easy to get the media out on a Sunday for a launch, even the opening of a new line.

Mind you, it can be difficult even getting them to come on a weekday too..........

Thanks, RichardB.  ;)

We'll keep that in mind for the (eventual) reopening of the Portishead Branch.  ;D

Never mind the press, getting civil dignatories & the Secretary of State Grayling out on a Sunday would be impossible!
