And the fact we nicked the stock that was meant to deliver the lengthened service.
There is no incentive to lengthen now as there can't be longer trains.

Why can't you just have doors open on 2 carriages (ie. on unit) at that station?

No SDO.
Local door is an option which I thought they could use.
As long as it is 2 150's that is.
142's or 143's have no end gangways so it can't work.

Seems to work fine at St James park - only farce with pacer local doors is that only a single leaf opens!

I think the Maesteg-Cardiff (on onwards to Cheltenham) service is mainly run by 158's?

Yes, I've experienced SDO on a 143:

I caught the 1519 from Melksham to Chippenham, for my connection to Bristol Temple Meads.  I was the only passenger waiting at Melksham: the 1519 was a 143, with two staff in the front cab.  The train stopped, and I pressed the door open button opposite me (at the rear of the train): no reaction, but the conductor gestured me right up to the front of the train (single door opened only) for me to get on the train!  I dutifully jogged up to her single opened door, squeezed in, and we departed.

Melksham can't take a whole 143, so thats why.

I appreciate that, Jim - but can't they open both leafs, of the front door only, in such situations?

Pacers Local Door is for single leaf only, nothing they can do about it.
