Rails sail into Scrabster for far north line track revamp

A CONSIGNMENT of new rail to replace a stretch of Caithness track on the far north rail line arrived at Scrabster Harbour on Monday.

Network Rail transported the 1000 tonne cargo by ferry from Rotterdam as part of a £3 million project to replace the line between Thurso and Georgemas Junction.

The rails were scheduled to come on Sunday but that was put back after the vessel left the Dutch port a day late on Friday.
