Title: Bristol Temple Meads / Bristol Parkway closures, May 2017
Post by: DaveHarries on April 11, 2017, 23:24:26
Evening all,

Quick heads up. The "Planned Enginering Works" section of GWR's website suggests that no trains will run between Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway on Sundays 7th, 14th & 21st May. The website of CrossCOuntry Trains suggests likewise.

GWR's information also says that the Severn Beach Line will be closed on all three Sundays.

Anyone know what work is being done during these closures OOI? I can't imagine it being anything too big considering it is only 3 days worktime in total.

Dave

Just a guess, but could it be in connection with the re-instatement of the 4 tracks up Filton Bank.

I am Guessing that it has something to do with Stapleton Road Bridge

Checked the diagrams on RealTimeTrains and there are no freight trains shown as having run on that weekend, likewise the next two. So the rail bridge idea is probably correct.

Could be to do with cutting up and removing the old bridge spans.

Blast! I missed two of those dates, and will be away on Sunday coming. Or I would have been out and about with my camera. Might go look tomorrow - I last inspected Stapleton Road bridge on 4 May, and it was still very much there.

As a result of the closures I took the unusual opportunity to make a return trip from Swindon to Bristol TM by Cross Country HST on Sunday. With just one stop at Bath the journey was slightly quicker than usual, and blasting through Chippenham at 125mph on the return was a first for me!  8)

Me too, hadn't done the Golden Valley before either, very pleasant journey.

Would of been 110mph, services without ATP cannot run above 110 mph on ATP fitted lines (except Reading to Didcot) due to the setup of the TPWS equipment.

Would XC HSTs not have ATP fitted?

Nope
