Title: Modified idea for a quiz
Post by: grahame on April 15, 2017, 21:56:02
Look for something a little different,  and knowing how people love a quiz, I've put together a multiple choice picture quiz ... entitled "Know Your Melksham".   And it's been very busy on our server this evening!

I don't expect too many people (even the TransWilts members who just pass though) will find this do-able, but I wonder if people would be interested if I tried this approach for a rail quiz?

Nine out of 15 - surprised myself.  Nice bit of webpage design too.

I think it would be a good variant on the quizzes we enjoy on here.

7 out of 15 from me - sorry about that.  :-[

I do agree, though, that it's a very good challenge: some of my own answers were 'inspired guesses', but were ultimately shown to be absolutely wrong.  ::)

7 out of 15. Been through Melksham on many occasions but have never stopped to explore.

It's a tough quiz ... I've not dumbed it down to help people get high scores, and anything from 7 up is statistically significant.  I suspect that a score of 0 out of 15 comes from not answering (m)any of the questions before submitting.   But then I would rather that "railway types" don't guess at things but rather do things from sound knowledge!

I didn't see anything that said 'guess if you don't know'........ ::) :o

....and, yes I do work from sound engineering knowledge, but inferring I'm a 'railway type'?...... its a long time since I collected engine numbers....8) ;D

Melksham is well worth such a visit - and it's even possible to do so by train these days!  :o :D ;D

Well you could get there before - just had to wait 12 hours to get home again...   ;D

Now be fair Bob, if you arrived at 15:21 on a Saturday from Trowbridge, you could leave again at 15:48 to get back there.

I recall greeting loads of people to do a "give us train" stunt on the platform ... the only time our VIP was available was 3 O'clock on a Saturday and we had pull everyone back twice with the "we want a train" posters to let the train call.   No passengers to worry about ... if you caught the 15:21 for a trip out to Chippenham or Swindon, the only return got you back at 21:34.  And if you caught the 15:48 to Trowbridge or Westbury, your next train back that 17:47 ... the next day.
