Title: Adelante_CCT Picture Quiz
Post by: Adelante_CCT on May 23, 2017, 01:08:49
As well as trialling a class 387 to Maidenhead on Monday, I decided to make use of the day pottering around our capital, which is where most of the below was taken, can YOU guess where else I went?

As per usual quiz rules, one correct guess per member per 24 hours etc etc.

1. Greenford - Stuving

Let's get you going with no. 1 - Greenford (looking from the Up Central Line platform across to the Up signals before Greenford West junction on the Wycombe Single line).

I'm afraid not Graham, however I did go to Old Street to see a job that we carried out at work (which I took snaps of), which is just around the corner from the station and was going to add the below picture to the quiz but decided against it.

So well done for guessing one of the locations without the aid of a picture  ;D

S&T just beat me to 3 - so I'll go for Marylebone at number 4.

Now for a bonus point, and in the interests of sticking with quiz forum "rules" (and to keep a particular forum member happy), where was picture 4 taken from?

At the top of the steps up from Boston Place to Rossmore Road ... oh, and also up from Taunton Place.

13. Finsbury Park

8 is just east of Christian Street Junction on the LT&S between Fenchurch Street and Limehouse.  So I assume taken from DLR train at Shadwell station.
(Signal number UR116 gives it away...)

7 is South Ruislip, with the class 66 in platform 3 having come from either the Refuse Transfer station or the Wycombe line, being overtaken by the Chilterns train on the Down Main.

Mea culpa.  Didn't read the rules.  It was a long time ago that I sat any exam, but it was drilled into me to read the whole question.  Evidently I've forgotten this.

No.9 - Royal Oak Tube just outside Paddington?

Yes, that's rather what I thought - I just didn't have the required confidence to actually put it into print.  :-[

Correct :)  taken from Shadwell platform, also with all the talk of class 387s on the forum at the moment, thought I'd better include one, albeit not one from our region.

South Ruislip is correct, with the refuse train having come up from the Greenford branch from Cricklewood to Calvert, just so happened that whilst it was paused, a light breeze was blowing in my direction from the train, not an overly pleasant smell.

Correct, figured I'd better include Taunton somewhere along the line, this being a picture of where picture 4 was taken from

Yes, this was taken a good 20 minutes before the daily Chiltern service was due past and the signal was already cleared for it. After taking this I headed up to South Ruislip and following on from BNMs past thread All by myself... (http://www.firstgreatwestern.info/coffeeshop/index.php?topic=16623.0), caught the service to Paddington, although on this occasion it was a ratio of 2:2.

Knowing that many passengers who use this are train enthusiasts, the guard twice made sure that I wasn't headed back up on that service, as from yesterday it runs fast to High Wycombe instead of previously to West Ruislip.
Here it is at Paddington before heading to Wycombe

Now, if they could extend the service to Snow Hill and add some Pullman dining - one could relive the golden age of the Birmingham New line.

10. is Brockley. That style of four-track two-platform station is common on the SWML, but on the Southern network there's just this run of them down to Norwood Junction.

Correct :)  I was trying to get a picture of a southeastern going over on the Nunhead to Lewisham line viaduct over the station to make it more confusing but was unsuccessful in getting a decent one.

I took that train in November as part of my to do list. I can safely say that it passes through some of the most uninspiring pieces of urban wasteland in the UK (Park Royal area?) and have no plans to repeat the experience. Been there, done that, move on.

So the only service from Paddington to the Chiltern line has had its stopping pattern changed so there's not one station the same ... me thinks that's not going to do much good for the passengers on that flow  ;)
