I've just seen this on the BBC web site but not sure it affected GWR.

From the Daily Express (http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/820027/travel-updates-latest-rail-ticket-machines-broken-delays)

Quote
Fury as train users forced to board without tickets as EVERY UK machine breaks, then FINED

RAIL commuters across Britain faced huge queues and delays this morning after a catastrophic break-down in hundreds of ticket machines, with one passenger describing the situation as "Trainmageddon".

Queues formed at stations during morning rush hour when ticket machines across the country displayed error messages, causing delays and anger.

Some people were forced to board trains without tickets due to the error, and were subsequently fined by train ticket inspectors.

The paper doesn't appear to know that the UK expands beyond Southern / Thameslink territory ... nor the difference between a penalty fare and a fine.

Metro are suggesting that the problems were a little bit further north...

The problems affected services including Southern, Greater Anglia, ScotRail, Gatwick Express and Manchester’s Metrolink.

ChrisB, I'm simply updating this topic to answer your more general question: yes, most of the ticket vending machines used on the Great Western Railway are Scheidt & Bachmann.
