Title: 15:22 Paddington - Great Malvern (10 July 2017)
Post by: charles_uk on July 10, 2017, 20:38:43
The 15:22 Paddington to Great Malvern service today was delayed by the seemingly daily signalling problems - today between Heathrow Airport Junction and Slough. It left Slough 24 late and was further delayed at Reading and eventually arrived at Oxford 45 minutes late. Inevitably - and understandably - this meant the 15:49 Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh would be terminated at Oxford.

Things then became more confused at it was announced that the 15:22 would run non-stop from Oxford to Honeybourne. Passengers for the intermediate stations were told to gather at Oxford station concourse where road transport was being arranged. Meanwhile the departure board and automated announcements were saying that it would still call at all stops. I decided to wait for the following halts train as I guessed it might be quicker than any road transport. At this point it became clear that the train crew and platform staff were unsure about where the train was going to stop next. Someone with a bike for Hanborough was allowed to load it and then told to take it off again. Eventually, it was decided the 15:22 would stop at all scheduled stops and it departed 49 late (being delayed by a few more minutes waiting for the single track to clear). Judging by the number of passengers getting off at Hanborough it seems that most went for the road transport option.

The staff at Oxford were as helpful as they could be but, once again, communication within GWR and to passengers could have been much better.

And of course, yet another evening when some peak services were significantly delayed.

Also delayed after a passcom alarm near West Drayton according to the log.  Removal of the Area Operations Manager post at Oxford makes confusing information at this busy location more likely nowadays I'm afraid.

Good to see this busy train is now booked to be in the hands of a HST in the interim period before more IETs are added.

Not only that, the 07:10 MIM:PAD is also now an HST (at least it was this morning) and it looks like the 17:52 PAD:WOS will be as well.
