Title: XCs proposed cuts to its Torbay services
Post by: woody on September 12, 2017, 12:52:47
Regarding XCs proposed cuts to its Torbay services a DevonLive campaign to save direct train services linking the north and the Midlands to Devon's holiday resorts has succeeded in saving the trains - for now.

Probably more like just a 6 month deferrment.   Doing nothing won't solve the immediate problem of weekday peak capacity in the midlands.

AIUI XC were proposing the alterations to meet the DfT's seat requirements in the midlands.   That requirement won't have disappeared?

So the overcrowding elsewhere on their network will continue....not sure which would be better overall.

XC is always going to be an inefficient franchise if its long distance services have to cope with commuting peaks that cover just a fraction of the train's journey.

Couldn't agree more even though it was nothing but a sticking plaster to the overcrowding problem. XC needs a new franchise with investment not a make do for now extension delaying investment.
