Title: Rail Failures do not just occur in the UK
Post by: ellendune on September 20, 2017, 20:29:06
On a trip to Netherlands this week we had:

1) Incoming train delayed 1:15 mins so Eurostar had to find another train for the Brussels service (Nice new Siemens unit).

2) A delay at Brussels Midi due to a track problem - Eurostar train eventually went into a domestic platform

3) Thalys ticketless travel - no bar code to open the barriers at Rotterdam and no staff on the barriers - eventually a cleaner let me through having seen my email ticket.

4) This morning delays and cancellations on services from classic Amsterdam to Rotterdam due to a broken down train north of Delft.

Nice new station at Delft though!

NS were a bit of a nightmare when I lived in NL (2005-2008), with similar reliability and weather problems (wrong kind of snow etc)  we have in the UK. Sounds like they've not improved much since!!

Cheap, simple ticketing does make up for the problems a little though...!
