Great Western Coffee Shop

For many years I've shunned Anchor butter, on the grounds that I prefer to buy local, and not something produced in New Zealand (and thus incurring considerable food miles in getting it to the shops).

Imagine my surprise to spot today that it has been produced in our own back yard (Westbury) for the last five years. Good to see something for once where production hasn't been offshored overseas and the factory turned into apartments.

Speaking of redundant factories, I noticed last week that demolition has begun of the former Westinghouse site in Chippenham.  More houses presumably, and thus more commuters on the local train services?

I also noticed recently (whilst visiting Cornwall) that Anchor butter on sale in the local branch of Sainsbury's is branded as made with West Country milk.

Other dairy products may be available, for all I know.

Very odd. Only at the weekend did I notice the same - reading the pack we have in the fridge.

You ain't seen the half of it.   I'm just formatting up a copy of the plans that are in the public domain for this evening of what happens to those dreadfully inefficient single layer car parks near row station.

Maybe they've only just starting making it obvious on the packs.

The people who were buying Anchor because the cows were 100% grass fed have had to change though.

And the taste is very different.

I miss New Zealand Anchor. Great flavour not replicated by the current Wiltshire produced Anchor. Grass feeding only makes all the difference.

My butter of choice these days is Tesco Buerre d'Isigny. Grass fed cows only.

Indeed, the "British rebranding" has occurred in the last couple of months, despite the change occurring 5 years ago.

I notice the new packs even feature the Westbury White Horse!
