Title: Pub names from railway signs
Post by: grahame on October 06, 2017, 20:51:50
Here's a couple of potential pub names and signs inspired by a few minutes changing trains at Swindon

What rail inspired pub names do you suggest?

How about a pop-up pub in the Thames Valley next weekend for those who won't now be travelling by train.

'The Rail Replacement'.

No dogs. No cycles. And a slow route to the bar.

Could you have a two-sided sign with "Leaves on time" on one side and "Leaves on the line" on the other?

To reflect that railway stations are sometimes in the seedier areas of town, 'The Bustitute and Punter'.

The (platform) Alteration.

... or, at a rather more boisterous station, The Platform Altercation. That would be a tied, rather than free house, obviously. :P

And no restaurant, not even a buffet.

So would the "Craven Arms" and the "Bat and Ball"  ;D  ... are there any others where stations are named after pubs?

You might wonder about the clientele of a pub called Trouble House!

Nunhead station in London is named after the area in which it is situated, however it is said that the area is named after the Nuns Head pub. That is the pub name predates the name of the area. So the station is named for the pub, albeit indirectly.

(named after the beheading of a number of nuns in some old religious war)

Well they have made a start ! At Paddington a pop up pub appeared a few years ago, near the barrier line. It certainly looks like some kind of porta-hut rather than a permanent structure.
