Title: TfL consultation for new Overground stations
Post by: IndustryInsider on October 21, 2017, 12:42:43
Open for the next month at:

Two new potential stations on the Overground to connect with the HS2 and GWML new station at Old Oak Common.  One at Hythe Road on the Clapham Juntion line and the other at Old Oak Common Lane on the Richmond Line.  It's clear that Old Oak Common could quickly become the west London version of Stratford transport wise.

Eventually moving more pax than Paddington - I foresee all PAD trains calling there once fully built & operational.

Old Oak Common Lane would be quite handy for one of my journeys.

I think OOC potentially will be better connected than Stratford.

Always wondered whether it would not be a better idea to forget terminating HS2 at Euston and just build a tunnel between OOC and Stratford, with possibly a through station buried under Euston/StP/KX if you were feeling lavish. Terminate everything at Ebbsfleet where there's bags of room for stabling/immigration for Continental services. Extend the Elizabeth line to Ebbsfleet and job's a good-un.

Terminating HS2 at any current London Terminus will be an expensive mistake.

Much better and cheaper to ensure OOC is built properly first, with great links.

There was a proposal to do exactly this at least in Central London and to join HS1 at Stratford - "Euston Cross" was the usual name of it - with a report somewhere within the vast array of information on the DfT and HS2 websites somewhere.

The basic point in the rebuttal of the proposal was that the central through underground station would have needed long dwell times, hence at least four 400m HS platforms, (like OOC) and building it and all the junctions would be unaffordable in any suitable location, given all the existing underground features.

Ah you see you are missing the point, HS2 at Euston is not about a the "railway" its about how much money can be earned redeveloping the area; remember the Government in the guise of HS2 Ltd has is about to make compulsory purchases, NR will loose the ownership of Euston station.   The return is based on 40 to 50 years and goes someway to pay for HS2

Since Crossrail cost about £15bn I suspect you would be looking at more than that for the Euston Cross proposal with tunnels between OOC and Stratford. Even if you knocked off the cost of Euston that would be adding 30% to the cost of HS2.  I cannot see £15bn of benefit from the project.

Also as Paul has hinted there is already an awful lot of London underground and fitting yet another line through would be very difficult. An underground walkway with a moving belt connecting Euston to Kings Cross/St Pancras (its not very far after all) would be an awful lot cheaper and only marginally less benefit.
