Title: Higher fares due to weedkiller ban?
Post by: grahame on October 26, 2017, 15:37:38
From Reuters (http://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-britain-train-weeds/weedkiller-ban-would-disrupt-uk-trains-and-raise-ticket-prices-study-idUKKBN1CT2JB)

Quote
British travellers could face higher train fares and disruption to services if controversial weedkiller glyphosate is banned, a study said on Tuesday, in a move that could cost the rail industry millions of pounds each year.

or as reported in the Express "Barmy EU ruling could force UK train fares to SOAR and cost Britain MILLIONS"

Will there be as much encouragement for weeds to grow on the railway once all trains have retention tank loos?

Only in the Express could a 0.9% increase be considered as SOARING. Of course, post-Brexit these will be crazy British rulings rather than crazy EU ones...

Incidentally, I note that the Express still uses a Crusader in its masthead. In 2017. Amazing.

You learn something every day! All these years, I thought it was a picture of Graham Chapman heading for the bar during a break in filming "The Holy Grail".

Don't you need to produce a telegram from the Queen congratulating you on your hundredth birthday in order to buy the Express?

I don't know but ahead of the first frosts there is a large crop of tomatoes growing in the four foot by both platforms 3 and 4 at Swindon.  I hesitate to say "a healthy crop" of tomatoes.

A consequence of the lack of retention tanks on the HSTs.

AIUI the glyphosate ban, if it happens, would be for food crops (because of imagined dangers from residues in food).  Railways would not be effected.
