At Chiltern Railways, we are about to launch a trial of a new and exciting way to pay for your travel using your smartphone. We are working to create a system that will automatically determine the journeys you have taken and charge you the best available rate at the end of the day. There’s no need to use ticket machines and as you travel ticket gates will open using Bluetooth beacon technology.

We are looking for a small group of volunteers to help us test this new technology. To be part of the trial, you must be an iPhone user and travel between Oxford Parkway or Bicester Village to London Marylebone.

Oddly the page for this new trial has old Chiltern branding ...

Are iPhone users more likely to have bluetooth switched on all the time? I only use the bluetooth on my android to stream spotify to my Roberts radio. I switch it off afterwards to save battery.

I'm guessing they are keeping things simple by developing the app for just iPhone first.
