Title: Class 802 Introduction?
Post by: devonexpress on February 05, 2018, 21:55:58
Hi all

Out of interest does anyone have any official dates for Class 802 introductions, GWR seem to have been saying all last year Summer 2018, does that mean May, June, July, August?

Given what's happened with the other fleet introductions, perhaps vagueness is the better part of hubris.

I have heard the 17th September quoted for some Swansea services.

I didn’t think the 802s we’re heading to Swansea?  WoE and North Cotswold Line/Oxford’s I thought?

Indeed....how many delivered so far? I think those dates are likely pie-in-the-sky

Class 800 for those services my friend.  The 802 are for Devon/Cornwall and Cotswold services. I believed they where being introduced before or at the start of summer but I could be wrong? Its just there is no summer service to Newquay this year!

Its what GWR put down in its new franchise agreement, they also have said that to people on twitter. I could be wrong?

IET running to Plymouth & Penzance starts on 16th July provided all the outstanding route clearance issues are resolved.

Seen some draft timetables and the 09:03 is shown as continuing to terminate at Plymouth and forming the 12:55 back to London Paddington.  It is possible it is still subject to change.

This is the commitment in the GW Service Level Commitment for London - Penzance (part of the Franchise Agreement)

"3.10 Newquay

On Summer Saturdays one service from London Paddington and one service to London Paddington shall call. On Mondays to Fridays during the period from the first weekend in July to the last weekend in August, one service shall call in each direction."

This will run.  I'd be confident of that.

Indeed - you are correct, of course, there is a separate timetable draft for May and one for July for the West of England.   It is on the July one.

I've been trying to find the document where it stated it. But in the GWR document it stated that because the IET's have ganging issues on the Newquay Branch. Paddington to Newquay services would be replaced by a Newquay shuttle to Par, and then passing onto a IET to continue to Paddington. Ill look harder to find it, but it know its been said for about two years. It might still go ahead this year because there will still be HST's but next year is doubtful.

If the guaging is wrong, the DfT will either have to pay NR to put right or else smend that franchise dicumet to remove the direct train. It'll get to be one or the other

After all DfT specified and procured the train.
