Title: Off the rails
Post by: grahame on March 24, 2018, 17:35:38
I have noted how long questions that ask "where is this" and do NOT include a station take to be answered.   So I expect this quiz will stick.   But please prove me wrong  ;D

One guess only though for the first 24 hours

1. Frome - Bradshaw

2. Vauxhall - on the cushions

No 5 could be somewhere in Bristol where works are going on in connection with MetroBus but don't recognize where. The clue for saying Bristol is the 20mph speed limit attached to the lamppost, the 20mph speed limit which the previous elected mayor introduced and was promptly caught doing 30mph in a 20mph zone as revealed by Jeremy Clarkson in an episode of Top Gear.

5. Temple Circus Gyratory, Bristol?

Both correct. (Rough cut and fine tuning!)

Purely in the interests of accuracy: the former Mayor of Bristol, George Ferguson, was actually done for doing 35mph in a 30mph zone - see the Bristol Post (https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/george-ferguson-caught-speeding-after-509) article.  ;)

Yes ... and I did not expect that one to go quickly!

Bus 36/436 from Praed St, outside Paddington.

Never used that loo - you'd either need to be quite an exhibitionist or have taken a strong diuretic as it's quite prominent and extensively CCTV'd from MI6 HQ.

3. Swansea

Clues leading me to that being the C registration on the van, the bilingual green and black type on the station sign, and the city streetscape.

and there was me thinking this thread was going to be about the fine establishment on Weston station  :o

Fine establishment?!? Has it been refurbished?

Last time I was in there it was noticeable that if you stood on one place too long you'd stick to the carpet. Over riding odour was one of stale beer.

Hmm.  I have to say here that I agree with member 'bignosemac' on this one: the bar facility at Weston-super-Mare Station could do with a deep clean / spring clean.  ::)

Not been in there for a while but in June last year it achieved a 5 Food Hygiene rating.

I was there last Saturday. It didn't particularly smell of stale beer. I'd say it was on the dirty side of averagely clean, definitely not filthy but not spotless. I did notice that one of the chairs at our table was broken. We were disappointed the cafe, advertised on the platform, was closed – in fact we couldn't see any sign of its existence at all, but it did seem to point to a different establishment – as we really wanted some hot food and Off the Rails only had rolls. They were pretty decent rolls though.

Ah, it's all about weights and measures.

This is the newer of the two outlets on the platform. This one is accessed if you turn right as you walk onto the main platform and is past the staff offices on the right hand side. Tidy little place but doesn't have that much variation, though they do have a few cooked items which this time of the year is a blessing some mornings.
As for Off the Rails, sadly still occupied by those desperate for their pint at 0700 and often still in the same spot 12 hours later, still not great but much improved to how it used to be

???

I guess Choo Choo's was the place that was closed.
