Title: Train speeds at Temple Meads
Post by: Phantom on April 12, 2018, 13:57:49
I've noticed since the new signalling was installed over Easter, when trains are arriving into Temple Meads now, they slow almost to a complete standstill in line with the end of the platform then roll through to their stopping point.

Does anyone know any reasoning for this?

Seems a bit odd, that trains accelerate until the eventually come to a stand  ???

In the old signalling, there were stop signs on platforms to allow permissive markings up to a certain point rather than signals, but they have been replaced by actual signals and (I think) been moved somewhat.  Signals require some extra safety features that weren't required when there were no signals, and (pending provision of a solution that works for Network Rail and the RSSB) trains are operating under caution.

The line speed has dropped from 25 to 10 into platforms 3-12.

Quite a drastic drop, Wizard.
