Title: Reading - Basingstoke short formed and cancellations
Post by: Jason on April 19, 2018, 11:13:24
This service seems to be having a lot of problems since at least the start of the year in reliably providing 3 car services.
2 doesn't quite cut it during the peak periods and I'm aware of several occasions with passengers left behind at Mortimer.

This is being compounded by a seeming inability to get the early services running on time causing the shuttle service to get out of sync resulting in cancellations.

This week alone there have been multiple cancellation both to morning and evening peak services such as

yesterday. I was unable to enjoy the serious overcrowding of the subsequent 17:34 out of Reading because I had to drive in and park for the princely sum of £21 because my morning service was canned and a 30 minute delay is untenable.

This morning the 'other' train of the pair did not run:

This resulted in the next train not stopping at Mortimer due to (from my SMS) 'overcrowding because of an earlier cancellation'
Brilliant!

Sorry. This belongs in 'Rants & Raves' but I couldn't find that sub-forum ;)

Yes, the same has been the case for the Oxford to Didcot shuttles as debated in another thread.  A shame the two 150s couldn’t have been kept for a little while longer until 800s release more 3-car Turbos.
