You wanted to write 990.8 in round brackets but got (990.8) ... so you wrote [990.8] Sensible solution. Another approach is to put spaces around the number - that way you'll see ( 990.8 ). Yet another solution is to add a useless tag pair if you really MUST get it bundled up.
