"Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Devon..."

Having seen Phil's recent adventures on Facebook I'll refrain from guessing.

EDIT: Oops. Just realised I've inadvertently given a clue.  :-[

Where did Phil's latest Madventure take him to?

Mad answer then in as this is the "Lighter Side".    These are timewarp pictures brought to us by Dr Who.  No. 1 is in the yard at Westbury, showing one of the Fawley - Great Yarmouth units; the year is 2035.   Picture No. 2 has to be Bere Alston with the Kelly Bray bay in the background, and the Plymouth to Exeter line in the foreground.

Sorry - was I supposed to answer just one at a time?   ;D

Hmm. MAD as in Madrid perhaps? (which Google Photos has kindly sent me a reminder that I was in that city 9 years ago today).

'Mad' as in 'outrageous' rather than Madrid - however two of those letters can be found in the name of the wider location of one of the pictures  ::) :P

I don't think so  :o ::) , but the Trans-Wilts does have a tenuous connection to at least one of the pictures.

I expect the train shown has brakes made in Melksham?

Quite possibility, but one of the places in the pictures shares a name with somewhere on the Trans-Wilts.

It is possible to travel by train between the two places, but you would need to change trains twice; all three trains would be on a different gauge and you would almost certainly pass through terrain similar to this.....

Well it is single track like Melksham!

I know the country concerned and I'm jealous!

Given that many clues ... I can find a picture of the station in 2. at Salisbury, Adelaide. The train might be in Adelaide too, though not on that line and not in that livery, which does belong a long way away.

Spot on!

Not in Adelaide, but, yes, it does belong a long way away  :)

Multiple clues suggest to me that No. 1 is near Perth, Western Australia - with "near" being in Aussie distances; the TransWA Network stretches 400 miles to Kalgoorie.

Close enough. It is actually in the Perth suburb of Warwick, between the carriageways of the Mitchell Freeway from my touring coach, enroute for Darwin via Exmouth and ultimately to The Ghan to Adelaide.

Yes, that's all very well - but what about the trackside trespasser in the foreground?  Why don't they have fencing to keep the types of him out ??  :o ::) ;D

He should have been there a couple of minutes later, so that he could be told by an emigrant Cockney, 'trine's ghan, cobber'! ???
