I would hazard a guess at Toller (Porcorum)
BRP suggests Bridport Railway Path.
I think that the bridge was built after the line opened.  Before there was a crossing opposite the old pub. In 1871 the census recorded a watchman, Charles Darlington, on the GWR, living in a temporary hut.

You're too good bradshaw! But with a name like that you should know a thing or two about railways. Yes, its the road bridge next to the former Toller station on the Bridport branch. A short detour on my drive home from Maiden Newton after another rail trip to Corfe Castle.

I think the BRP 7 refers to the mileage. There's no railway path on the formation in this location. One starts further west of the village.

The Toller station platform still exists. In someone's garden now, but visible from an adjacent public footpath. The station building still exists too, but not here. It is now at Totnes (Riverside) on the South Devon Railway.

I have lived in the area since 1976 and used to walk the line from Maiden Newton to Toller to visit the pub. Now you can walk from Maiden Newton along a designated path to the Chilfrome road. Thence it is not really passable until Powerstock nature reserve from which you can walk to Loders. There is a good pub at Nettlecombe, the Marquis of Lorne and the Loders Arms in Loders. The next walking stretch is from Bradpole Crossing, which still has a gate and rails, to West Bay. The CoOp is the site of the station. Sea Roads, North and South take you to the Crown roundabout. Up from there is a path to West Bay, and three more holstelries!

Taken by my own fair(?) hand in the last days of the line when mum (who comes from Bridport) and I walked the length of the line back from Maiden Newton to Bridport and then, as best we could, on to West Bay.

BRP is the three character line code (later Enginineers Line Reference: ELR) and 7 means its either the 7th bridge on the line or its at the 7th milepost exactly (which is a bit unusual as they were usually annotated as 7.00 i.e. miles and yards).

Thanks, I believe it is the bridge number, rather than the distance. Unusually, most of the over bridges are still in place. Only one, at Powerstock station, has been removed recently to facilitate access to a new dairy unit.

Looking at BNMs photograph again I think somebody has edited it to cover up part of the bridge number...... ???

BPT was the ELR version, all the bridges at present have a BRP prefix. There is a county policy, long term, to have this as a cycle/walk route and the prefix might reflect that.
Certainly, in recent weeks a lot of scrub and vegetation has been removed and the track bed can by cycled from Powerstock to Loders.
The section through Powerstock Common is owned by the Dorset Wildlife Trust. At one time, pieces of the McConnel Rail could be seen covering the drains; sadly no longer.
From Powerstock to near Loders is a permissive path courtesy of the Crutchley Estate and is shared with animals and farm machinery. However, for most of the way the surface is reasonably good.
Sustrans have a small stretch within Loders itself, their aim was to extend it but nothing has happened for some time.

I did slightly obscure the BRP 7 before posting.

I left the 'BR' visible as a misdirection, thinking it might get folk looking in the Bristol area!

I dunno about that, he did brag that he'd taken a trip on MetroBus and had hoped he'd worn a hoodie like Red Squirrel Junior so as to escape the "Arctic Blast" of MetroBus's air conditioning.

I remember when Bridge of Allan opened which fortunately conicided with a school friend moving there. No more buses to Bridge of Allan or trains to Dunblane (and doubling back).

I was going to go with Perth and I'll award myself a half point (as no one else probably will) for being on the right line :)
