Title: MAAS
Post by: grahame on June 24, 2018, 07:59:08
Xnn Jxxxx TWSW seminar, Exeter - see follow up post for updated plans

"Travel plan development for now and understanding the implications of MAAS"

OK ... I'm involved in the promotion but I scratch my head at "MAAS".

Google gives me:
MAAS   Maastricht Aging Study
MAAS   Meet and Assist (airlines)
MAAS   Mobile Aircraft Arresting System
MAAS   Maharashtra Association of Anthropological Sciences (India)

turns out to be Mobility As A Service

I suppose I don't need to know what it is yet, as the purpose of this seminar is to help member organisations of TravelWatch SouthWest get into this stuff.   But it looks like total journey planning, together with planning developments and changes such they make for good journeys.   Streets wide enough for buses ...

Here's a view - an introduction from Arup (https://www.arup.com/publications/research/section/maas-the-value-proposition) that leads you to a 52 page paper

We explore the evolution of mobility-as-a-service, or MaaS: how it is redefining our conceptions of vehicular mobility and how we navigate around our cities and fulfil our life’s work.

MaaS is a manifestation of new thinking around how transportation services are currently provided and used. MaaS is intended to improve the efficacy of and access to urban mobility through new services and online platforms. Many cities around the world have been exploring how to best deploy MaaS networks to optimize benefits for providers and users.

For the TWSW seminar - contact secretary at travelwatchsouthwest.org for details / to register.   It's a no-charge event open to TWSW members and those with similar aspirations, and we're suggesting to members that the being alone a younger member of their group as this is the sort of thing that's going to be important long into the future when they will have inherited whatever we're setting up.

Facebook event at https://www.facebook.com/events/1693121097468524/

Edit to update date and signing up details.  See post to follow. It will still be no charge and I will still be encouraging you to bring along one or more people who will inherit what we do on travel and transport planning in the next few years.
