Title: Still trying to catch up on the Isle of Wight?
Post by: bobm on July 01, 2018, 19:37:45
Much has been written about the future of the railway on the Isle of Wight with the current rolling stock reaching the end of its working life (or in some people's eyes already past it).

It seems it is not just the trains that need updating judging by this sign on Ryde Pier.

Today is/was the deadline date for the DfT to announce the future plans for the Island Line (delayed from a while back) including perhaps, confirming their choice of new rolling stock provider. Has anyone come across such announcement. The "Keep Island Line in Franchise" Facebook page has nothing. I'm wondering if other small matters currently going on with the government have caused another delay but surely the DfT must in some way still be functioning?

Why do you expect them to start now? They've never functioned effectively in the past... ;)

Apparently Seaborne Freight have just been awarded a 99 year franchise to run all shipping services to the IoW.................starting next Wednesday.  Island supermarkets have already rationed the sale of toilet rolls to 1 per customer due to mass panic buying !
