Title: 8th September 2018 - Railfuture Severnside, meeting in Gloucester
Post by: grahame on August 16, 2018, 17:18:29
Just adding to the diary for the moment, with a note that it's an afternoon meeting at a venue near the station.  Gloucester is a fascinating City with a lot of transport history things (water especially) to see ... I'm (personally) planning to be up there a few hours ahead to have a good look around.

The city centre will let you down, however a new bus station is being built at the moment opposite the station. A lot of transport history though not very remains of the old Tuffley loop.

I have to admit it - I found the room booked / used for the event to be one of the most difficult I have even been it to attend an event, and the reception team and general setup of the place not welcoming to first timers there. Hot, noisy, poor lighting, chairs that make the middle seat of a 3+2 feel like luxury.  I wasn't alone in my concerns.

The meeting itself - as the agenda suggests - was a bit "bitty" but I was delighted to hear Robert Crockford talk on Trip Generation.    Sounds technical / dull but far from it.   How people get to the stations, why they are travelling - looking at the very sort of statistics that we look at in Wiltshire and ask "why" and "what could they be", "how do we improve" with a generous look back to experiences and regions that I have no inside knowledge of. Worth going just for the one talk.
