The Passenger Demand Forecasting Council (PDFC) brings together all of the train operating companies, Network Rail, Department for Transport, Transport Scotland, the Office of Rail Regulation, Transport for London, the Urban Transport Group, RSSB, HS1, HS2, Transport for the North, and Welsh Government. Its aims include the procurement of research into demand forecasting issues relevant to the rail industry and to maintain and develop the Passenger Demand Forecasting Handbook.

The Council offers consultancies and other organisations involved in the field the opportunity to become Associate Members, and so gain access to this valuable resource.

For some of the more learned discussions we have in the community and here on the Coffee Shop, we can be so much more effective in suggestions if we can look forward to what traffic levels might be achieved by the various alternatives, and we could understand and make better cases.

Why be an Associate Member?

Associate Membership of the Passenger Demand Forecasting Council (PDFC) provides organisations and individuals involved in rail demand forecasting with access to the Passenger Demand Forecasting Handbook (PDF Handbook) and other key resources of the Scheme.

Benefits of Associate Membership

The latest edition of the PDF Handbook and regular updates for the term of membership.
Access to the online interactive version of the PDF Handbook (Version 6, released in 2017)
The opportunity to benefit from leading edge economic and strategic rail research, with access to the full reports for all studies commissioned by PDFC. Recent examples include research into the effects on rail demand of new rolling stock, environmental awareness, car parking at stations and ticket gates. All reports are available to download from the Members' secure website.
Ability to offer potential clients access to the latest demand forecasting research, even where a PDFC member is not involved directly.
Inclusion on our register of Associates made available to organisations commissioning rail industry research.
Attendance of quarterly Council meetings where results of recent rail demand forecasting research and other relevant research are presented. The meetings also enable Associates to network with a wide range of industry representatives.

Alas, for a community group the annual price is way outside our leagues ... although I note that no price is quoted for an organisation with less than one full time employee.
