Glasow - Coatbridge - Motherwell - Carlisle - Wolverhamtpon - Birminginham and onward so far today OK - but looking ahead to Bristol, I see:

Is it just me, or is the greater Bristol network far more prone to these issues than anywhere else?

Here's hoping that I can get to Bath for the 23:20 bus to Melksham;  headed for Bristol via Severn Tunnel Junction in a state of unknown, late at night ...

How can a rail company put such information out like this 1/2 hour before the service runs, they'll look right idiots if the overcrowding is invisible.

My gut feeling is that the reported service has been re-timed from Bristol this evening to allow fans to get home by rail after the sporting fixture concludes.

Bath vs Exeter in the rugby this evening (at Bath). I can find no other sporting matches this evening in the southwest.

Yes - I got to Bristol on my Cross County in time to catch it, and it was announced as delayed so that it could pick up people after the ruby in Bath .... where crowds were significant but not in excess of what it could well handle as a 3 car.

No trains to Melksham this late at night, so I'm awaiting the last bus here [Bath Bus Station] as I write.

And ... home about half an hour ago.  Bus full and standing all the way - a sprinkling who had been to the rugby but many who had nor. Heartening that around ten got off in Whitley and a further dozen at the "George Ward" new housing;  shows that these markets are being reached.

So why doesn't the railway company come clean and put on JourneyCheck that the service is being "retimed to cater for fans returning from a sporting event".

Its like services that usually pass through Parsons Street Bristol station non-stop are announced as, "This train is making an additional stop because a previous train was cancelled" when in fact no previous train was/is cancelled, the train is/will be carrying fans for/from an Ashton Gate fixture and for the convenience of those fans the service has a special stop order issued for the day.

It makes passengers take the attitude, "you don't believe that do you".

Off to Didcot today but with the Parkway closure have to MetroBust it to Temple Meads today on the err non MetroBust service Y1 to the City Centre then a 2 minute walk from the Colston Tower across the city centre to the Forces Careers Recruitment Offices for the A1 to Temple Meads. Wonder if my train will be making an additional stop at Didcot Parkway today because Thomas The Tank Engine is in town today at the Didcot Railway Centre.

Yes, that was my reaction - but rhyming slang based ion celebs' names has a natural lifetime, so "ruby" would probably mean something else now (not that you or I or Graham would necessarily know it). Ruby Wax doesn't suggest anything relevant, and is in any case already getting dated. So who's the new Ruby for rhyming with?
