Given the lack of responses after 55 views,

here is a view from a slightly different angle, taken by another some years previous to my visit (http://www.davidheyscollection.com/userimages/00-0-a-WR10-321-J-Head-c.jpg)

Any takers?

Ah, welcome to the nightmare of setting a quiz that's hard enough to not go in 10 seconds, and easy enough to be solved in 24 hours.    Many thanks PhilWakely for the question; I expect it will now be identified today.

Is that a Bristol and Exeter, rather than GWR, sb?

Sadly, not

Dainton Summit.
Indeed it is. The bridge I was on is in the background of the B&W picture and not easily accessible. The buffer stop of the Up refuge is still there, hidden in the undergrowth. No evidence at all of the Downside sidings.

I often like to use old maps to see how a location has changed:

Ooh what a big one! Picture, I mean, since while it's scaled to 600x400 it's got 100 times that many pixels in it. So it may provide a stiff test of your download speed!
